Connecting From Off Campus

Mapping your X-Drive.

If you are off-campus and want to access your X-Drive, there are three parts to accomplishing this:

  1. You need to be On-Line with your Internet Service Provider (ISP i.e. Adelphia, AOL…)
  2. You need to use the University of Vermont VPN Client to set up a VPN connection to UVM (see Connecting from Off Campus…Secure Network Access)
  3. You need to do the following once:
    1. Right click My Computer and select 'Map Network Drive'
    2. Select a Drive Letter (does not have to be X)
    3. In the Folder text box type \\marge\**YourUserName**
    4. Be sure the Reconnect at Login check box is checked.
    5. Click Finish.

First and foremost you need an internet connection.  You can get this through any common Internet Service Provider (ISP) such as Earthlink, Net Zero, Adelphia, AOL, etc.

Once you are on-line with your ISP you can then set up a Virtual Private Network (VPN) Connection to the University of Vermont Network.  By doing this you will be able to access your X-Drive and use Outlook to view your Business School E-mail. To do this, you need to have the University of Vermont VPN Client installed on your computer.  If you don't have this software on your machine, go to:

  1. www.uvm.edu/software
  2. Select Cisco VPN Client and click Download
  3. Select Open from Current Location.
  4. After unzipping, it will state that installing this will change your IP settings, Click Yes to accept this change.
  5. Go through the install and Accept all of the default answers.
  6. At the end of the installation it will prompt you to restart, do so.

Anytime you want to use the University of Vermont Network you need to do the following:

  • Go to your start menuàProgramsàUniversity of Vermont VPN Client à Secure Network Access
  • Press Continue and then enter your Zoo user name and password.

If you have forgotten your zoo account credentials or have never activated your account, go to the following site and change your password or activate your account: www.uvm.edu/account.

After clicking on Secure Network Access, opening Outlook will display your Business School E-mail.

Please note: Depending on who logged onto the computer at the CTRL+ALT+DLT Network Logon Screen.  If you entered your Business School User Name, Password and BSADNET for the Domain, Outlook will use these credentials to display your e-mail.
