Enabling your Wireless Card and Authenticating to the Network

 

To Enable Your Wireless NIC Card in Windows XP:

Go to Start Menu - (Settings in Classic View) - Control Panel - Network Connections

            {You May see "Network and Internet Connections" and then Network Connections}

In this Window, you should a "Wireless Network Card"

Right Click this Icon and select "Enable"

 

To Authenticate against the UVM Firewall for the Wireless Network:

The Client Application (The University of Vermont VPN Client) should Auto-initiate when your Wireless Card is enabled and On-Campus.  That means you should see a Logon Window asking you to enter your Zoo User Name and Password.

 

If you don't have the UVM VPN client installed on your machien yet, do the following:

 

  1. Go to www.uvm.edu/software
  2. Select Cisco VPN Client and click Download
  3. Select Open from Current Location.
  4. After unzipping, it will state that installing this will change your IP settings, Click Yes to accept this change.
  5. Go through the install and Accept all of the default answers.
  6. At the end of the installation it will prompt you to restart, do so.

Anytime you want to use the University of Vermont Network you need to do the following:

  • Go to your start menu - Programs - University of Vermont VPN Client - Secure Network Access
  • Here you will press Continue and then enter your Zoo user name and password.
