Begley, a 1988 BSAD Alum, has recently received another promotion and has been named the new head of GE Home & Business Solutions.
In just over two decades at General Electric, Begley has risen through the ranks, making her one of the company’s most valuable assets. She began her career at GE after graduating magna cum laude from the School of Business Administration in 1988.
In 1997, Begley had become GE Transportation’s chief financial officer and two years later was promoted to vice president of the corporate audit staff. At age 32, she became GE’s youngest-ever corporate officer. And in 2003, Begley was named president and CEO of GE Transportation Systems, making her the first woman to run a major GE unit.
In her most recent promotion, 43-year-old Begley is charged with taking on a new division of the company that deals with alarms and advanced electronics along with home appliances and light bulbs. As the head of GE Home & Business Solutions based in Albany, NY, Begley will now report to Chief Executive Jeffrey Immelt.
In the 2009 list of the 100 Most Powerful Women, Begley is number 96.
Congratulations Charlene!
