The poem is below:
On the east side of campus, you’ll find the Business school,
Also known as Kalkin or BSAD, and UVM’s jewel.
Our students hail from locations well beyond the US,
Athletes, artists, scholars, we are destined for success.
The staff, faculty and Deans are one of a kind,
Caring, dedicated and passionate, and the brightest of minds.
Within our school, we have student services, career counseling and IT,
The most helpful and friendly group, everyone agrees.
With human resources and finance as concentrations,
We learn about negotiations and inflation.
We have a stock ticker in the lobby and computers on every floor,
As well as the next generation of future business leaders…that is for sure.
We are known for our rigorous academics and late nights in the lab,
Free printing, team projects and close relationships with lots of gab.
Over the years friendships have formed both in and outside Kalkin’s halls,
You’ll recognize BSAD students at UVM’s games of basketball.
Our time at UVM and Kalkin has come to a close,
“Hats off to the grads”, as the saying goes.
We would now like to recognize a professor who has made it fun,
Let’s hear all about him and why he has won.
There is a professor that you all know,
who teaches a method called LIFO.
He resides in an office on the third floor,
and I promise you, he is never a bore.
As most of you are aware, accounting can be dry,
But somehow this man keeps everyone’s spirits high.
We love the stories about Costco, and his dog Humphrey,
He makes the classroom as entertaining as it can be.
He writes problems with names like Pat Myback,
And was surprised when we said, “Never wear blue and black.”
He taught us about Pensions and Earnings per Share,
No matter how difficult it was, he did it with flair.
We all love his homework policy,
Because if you use excel, your C will become a B.
We will never forget the day he shaved his beard,
It was a bit awkward for all that it had disappeared.
He sits in his office listening to music alone,
No matter how wide you wave your arms, he’s in his own zone.
He treats his students with the utmost respect,
He takes us in as his own, and tends to overprotect.
Most say his classes are the best to attend,
Probably because he teaches as a mentor and friend.
His love for accounting is incredibly contagious,
And the knowledge he shares with us is outrageous.
Words can’t explain what this means to us,
Getting to know you has been absolutely tremendous.
Now please everyone, applaud and begin to cheer.
Professor Dempsey, congrats, you’re professor of the year.
