10/29/2007 Dr. Jane Chu Prey Dr. Prey is the Senior Program Manager of Microsoft Research External Research & Programs, and is the lead for the Tablet Technologies in Higher Education initiative and for the Gender Pipeline initiative. She has also been a faculty member for the university of Virginia School of Engineering & Applied Science Department of Computer Science. She has been working with the School of Business for the last two years on the Microsoft tablet grant.
On October 29, 2007, Dr. Prey met informally with two separate student focus groups, one from the College of Engineering and one from the School of Business Administration. Many faculty and staff of the School and College also attended. Lively discussion took place regarding tablets and Microsoft in higher education, as well as where the tablet market is going and what is the role of Microsoft research. She also met with the members of the current Microsoft Grant team from BSAD and CS (Jim Kraushaar, Tom Chittenden, Jeff Frolick, and Dave Novak.) We presented a summary of our research results to date, discussed research challenges faced when trying to measure the impact of tablets on student learning, and explored additional research opportunities.
