Business School and the Tablet PC

Microsoft has recently published a case study about the University of Vermont School of Business Administration. The case study discusses the School's decision to require students to use Gateway Tablet PCs running Microsoft Office products. In the study, Dr. James Kraushaar, Associate Professor of Management Information Systems and School of Business Information Technology team members discuss how the technology has enabled students to prepare, organize, and learn more effectively. Microsoft features the University of Vermont School of Business as a model for demonstrating that by providing students with appropriate tools, they can gain experience that will eventually help them to succeed in the business world.

Tablet PC Information
The School of Business Administration is pleased to continue its partnership with Gateway.  Incoming undergraduate business school students are required to purchase a Gateway personal convertible laptop/tablet for use both in and out of the classroom.

The School of Business Administration's experience has shown that students do NOT bring their laptops to lectures for varying reasons, which include the form factor of the laptops and professors who ban them because they don't like the classroom distractions they provide.  To address these issues, the School is excited to announce a new direction in its education program for future executives.

The School is confident that a convertible laptop/tablet combination will allow greater flexibility and more usage in all courses students take at the University.  The system selected is a full-size, performance convertible laptop/tablet which converts into a notepad with a large 14.1-inch rotating screen.  The convenience and flexibility of using either a keyboard or digital ink pen input increases productivity in the classroom, office and field.  The convertible laptop/tablet couples the flexibility of a full-size performance laptop with the use of digital pen input.  The selected product also has approximately four hours of battery life and sleek design at 5.7 pounds.
