National Association of Professional Employer Organizations (NAPEO)
The use of Professional Employer Organizations (PEO's) has grown in the US over the last few years. PEO's offer another form of flexible and alternative employment. A PEO assumes and manages the Human Resource function of a company. Working under a contract with the hiring company, the PEO takes care of everything from benefits and taxes to the actual payment of salaries. The PEO pays salaries, taxes, and benefits out of its own accounts. This can free up a tremendous amount of capital for a small business. For the worker, PEO's can offer corporate-type benefits to the employees of smaller organizations. A PEO allows a smaller company to concentrate on running their business, not managing their employees.

The National Association of Professional Employer Organizations (NAPEO) is the national trade association for the PEO industry. They are certainly the starting point for anybody looking to find out more about this industry. The frequently asked questions section is very informative about the industry addressing companies and workers.
