Reminder to students who plan to Study Abroad 2009-2010:
It is strongly recommended that you complete BSAD 120, 150 and 180 before you study abroad. Completion of these courses gives you the prerequisite business coursework in order to enroll in Business Concentration courses while abroad.
BSAD Study Abroad Process
Getting through the Study Abroad process is not as complicated as you might think. The following information will provide you with what you need to do now that you have decided to go abroad.
Step 1: Attend a Study Abroad Information Session. These are available either online at the Office of International Education website or on campus during the fall semester. OIES website: www.uvm.edu\~oies\.
Step 2: Meet with your Business School Academic Advisor.
This will be a preliminary discussion on study abroad and academics. With your faculty advisor you will review your progress to date and develop a plan for your remaining time at UVM including your study abroad program. Topics for the discussion may include how taking business courses abroad or taking non-business courses abroad match your goals and affect your graduation plans.
Step 3: Obtain Study Abroad Program Information and apply to a program.
This step occurs at the Office of International Educational Services in Living/Learning. Once you have registered with them, you will find a vast library of descriptions of programs and people who will help you, including regional study abroad advisors. This step ends when you apply to a Study Abroad program. Once admitted to a program, you will receive a "Study Abroad Approval Form" (SAAF) which will need sign-off from various departments
Step 4: Meet with the Office of Transfer Affairs, Waterman - Sign-off.
You need to obtain pre-approval for the courses you wish to take while abroad. They will list and sign-off on the SAAF form for courses which have previously been evaluated. Transfer Affairs will refer you to your major unit for any courses that need to be reviewed for equivalency. You would provide syllabi or course outlines to the Business School Study Abroad Advisor. Once your course list is fully evaluated for equivalencies, you move to the next step.
Step 5: Meet with your Faculty Advisor and/or Cathy Carlson, Assistant Dean
This is a detailed discussion on how selected courses will meet Business School requirements and to review the information you obtained to date. Faculty Advisor signs off on SAAF form.
Step 6: Meet with the School of Business Faculty Study Abroad advisor, TBA.
Step 7: Meet with Cathy Carlson at the Student Services office for the Academic Dean sign-off.
Step 8: The advisor will review the SAAF steps and decisions made along the way. The Business School Study Abroad Advisor will sign-off on the SAAF form in the area marked "Major Department."
Step 9: Finish non-academic SAAF sections.
Finish the financial section of the SAAF form, obtain sign-offs and return form to the Study Abroad Advisor.
